Therapy that helps you embrace change as you work toward wellness

TELEHEALTH THERAPY FOR TEENS, YOUNG ADULTS, FAMILIES, AND COUPLES IN VA

You want therapy that gives you the tools to take on the tough parts of life.
I’m here to guide you as you learn the strategies and coping skills that work best for you, empowering you to create meaningful change.

Is it time to make a change?

Are you searching for support for a teen struggling with depression or a young adult trying to manage the impacts of anxiety?

You may be looking for couples or family counseling that understands the unique challenges of military life, or you’re an adult trying to cope with the challenges of substance abuse and recovery.

A lot of people were never taught healthy tools for life’s challenges, but you’re here because you know there has to be a better way.

You’re ready for change. Therapy can help you to learn and use the practical coping skills you need to make that change.

Therapy that empowers you to do the work

Therapy involves change, and change takes work. But one of the most powerful things about therapy is that it can show you just how capable you really are.

I’ll be there with you, every step of the way, supporting you as you use the techniques and tools you learn through therapy between sessions. As you start doing things differently, you’ll see changes start to happen.

You can do the work, even if it feels intimidating. You just need someone to show you where to start!

Top Virginia therapist Josette Smith

VIRGINIA TELEHEALTH THERAPIST FOR ADOLESCENTS & ADULTS

About Josette Smith, LCSW, CSAC

I became a therapist because I truly love helping people. For me, being a therapist is all about supporting others as they embrace change and move toward wellness. I’m goal-driven, and I want clients to leave sessions with practical tools they can use in real life—not just insights in the room.

I believe therapy is best when progress is clear and measurable, and the next steps are charted.

I’ve also always been passionate about substance abuse counseling. So many people struggle, often in silence, and even if they’ve already completed an inpatient program, they may not have a complete toolkit for coping.  I genuinely enjoy supporting people to learn all the ways they need to make it through life without leaning on substances to get by.

I am also a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC), and am passionate about helping others learn the life skills needed to reduce harm and maintain long-term recovery

Whatever you’re going through, I’m committed to helping you achieve your wellness goals. I’m not just here to listen—I take an intentional approach, helping you see where you want to go in life and equipping you with the tools to get yourself there.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our online telehealth therapy services are for people living anywhere in Virginia, with availability on most weekdays and Saturdays.

For those that live outside of Virginia, I also offer Life Coaching services regardless of location.

  • 24 hours' notice is required for cancellations. Otherwise, a no-show session fee will be charged.

  • In our first session, your clinician completes a thorough evaluation of your symptoms and concerns.

The focus is on what brought you in and what you want to change. From there, we’ll work to figure out the most helpful path forward. We’ll often use a CBT lens to examine how your thoughts shape your emotions and experiences, generating insights that guide you in what you’d like to change.

  • Therapy sessions take an intentional, goal-oriented approach. We will review what you’ve done throughout the week, celebrating successes and strategizing around what didn’t work. It’s important that you leave with tools, ideas, and practical next steps you can apply between sessions. You’ll sometimes have therapy homework, which helps you apply what you learn in therapy in your everyday life.

  • We use a combination of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Family Systems work. Our approach is tailored to each client, finding the best method for their unique circumstances.
